The right gear makes a difference

In my experience, having the correct gear can help you be a better player. Here are a few highly regarded tennis racquets across different brands that have received positive reviews:

1. Babolat Pure Aero: This racquet is popular among players who generate lots of spins. It offers a blend of power and control, making it suitable for aggressive baseline players.

2. Wilson Pro Staff RF97 Autograph: Designed in collaboration with Roger Federer, this racquet provides excellent control and feel. It is favored by players who prefer a traditional, heavier frame.

3. Head Graphene 360 Speed Pro: This racquet offers a good balance of power and maneuverability. It is suitable for players who like to play an attacking game with controlled aggression.

4. Yonex EZONE 98: Known for its comfort and precision, the Yonex EZONE 98 is favored by players who value control and feel. It offers a responsive and forgiving playing experience.

5. Prince Textreme Tour 100P: This racquet offers a blend of power, control, and maneuverability. It suits players who like to dictate play with aggressive groundstrokes.

Along with racquets, there are other factors as well. You need to find the right grip size for you along with overgrips that help with sweat. Another factor would also be the type of strings to use as well as the thickness of the strings.

Remember, these are just a few examples, and the best tennis racquet for you ultimately depends on your playing style and preferences. It's always recommended to try out different racquets before purchasing to find the one that feels the most comfortable and enhances your game.

January 14 update

It has been a while since I have posted anything in this blog.
Last year was the first year since I started to play tennis competitively (1995) that I was unable to play in any tournaments. I had a lot of things that kept me away from the court. Fortunately, I was able to play league play.
I played well but can still improve. It seems like that now, the more that I play the better I get even though I haven't played much. It doesn't take much to get back in to the swing of things.

Last weekend, I played a practice singles match for the first time in a very long time. I played well, with good control, but my serve was a little off. Two days after that practice game, I am still sore.

I was happy to get back on the court after winter break and look forward to a good tennis season.

I am excited to play and hope you will be too.

Update 8-31-13

Been watching the US Open this year. Since I haven't played much but have practiced some getting ready for the fall season, this is a good thing to do to get some pointers from the pros. You get different techniques, ideas and strategies by just watching the pros. Next time you are on the court, try them.

Practice, Practice, Practice. That is the only way you will be better.

Update 8-7-03

It has been a while since I have posted anything on this blog. Been going through alot of stuff and my tennis is kind of been on the back burner. Unfortunately, the momentum that I had, has slowed and been put on hold. The more that I played, the better I became and gained confidence. With the confidence, came the wins.
Have had some personal problems that has hampered my tennis playing. On top of that, I have been having back issues. I also for some time now, I have had a bad big toe on my right foot. Last year, I saw a doctor about my toe and he suggested surgery. I have been putting it off and continued to play. I was hurting last season in league play and it did not help that our team was not that good. After taking some time to research the problem I have with my toe, surgery looks to be the answer, but am still worried on how I will be able to move with screws in my foot.
Came to find out that Lleyton Hewitt also had the same problem that I have bee going through and he had been sidelined for a couple of years with injuries. I don't know if that specific toe injury kept him off the court or if it was a combination of other injuries as well.
There seems to be hope seeing Hewitt return and playing well. I hope that I too, can get back on the court and pick up where I left off before all the personal problems and injuries hit me.

I believe, that once I get back to playing without the injuries, and if I can focus on playing instead of having my personal problems creep in, that I can again gain the confidence and win. I look forward to that day, be it having support or going it alone.

Update 1/3/13

I haven't posted anything in a while. Just wanted to add an update. 2011 was a good year for my tennis. Our team won the Spring League and made it to the Sections in Dallas, TX. Our team did not do too well there though. Played well throughout that year. At the end of 2011, our team won the Fall league and we went to Houston to play in the USPTA tournament indoors in Houston. Again, we started well, but we did not finish well. Since our Fort Worth Team consisted of 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5. We played as a team and were within 1 point of First Place after the first round, but the rest our team did not play well. Had fun though.

In 2012 we lost some key players and I became captain of our team. I had to recruit some new players but our team lacked strong singles players. We ended up in 4th place. A new league started up in the summer of 2012. It was 40+ 3.5 level team. I had fun with that league and I continued to play well. Won every match except 1. Mid-year ratings came out and as a result of my continued winning ways, I was bumped up to 4.0.

After the bump up, I did appeal but was denied as I was a benchmark player. Unfortunately for me, I did not play the rest of the year. Mainly because I was working alot and did not have time to play and also the fact that my dad was ill and eventually passed away in September. I also had some financial setbacks which I am still dealing with. But with God's grace I expect to get back on track this year and years to come and hopefully get back on the court.

As a result of me not playing since August of 2012, the end of year ratings came out and I was bumped back down to 3.5 again. I kept in touch with my old team mates, but again, we lost so more players and don't know if our team (which I have been a part of for many years - last original member of the team) will be back together again.

The good news for me is that although, financially I am struggling, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Our boss told us that we would be working overtime for the remainder of January, we get our raises in February, tax refund in March and performance bonus in March which will help me get back on my feet. The bad news is that I won't have time to play. Don't know what the future holds as far as having time to play but hopefully I can make time to play league and maybe a few tournaments.

I hope that 2013 will be a better year for me and hope it will be a great year for everyone who reads this too.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

Update 7-25-2011

Updating my posts. I played in the FTW Major Zone this weekend. We have been suffering in a really bad heat wave with no rain for a while now. I played my first round match - it ended up being a 3 hour marathon. I kept to my guns, kept the ball in play. We had not shade at all, extremely hot. I was energized with the pasta I had ate before my match. That gave me the energy to make it through. I was pretty tired, but I wore my opponent out. I won 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Tough match. I had about 45 minutes rest before I had to play the #4 seed who had a bye in his first round. He was fresh and I was worn out. I lost the first set 6-1. I was up in the second set 5-4 with me serving, but just ran out of energy. I had my chances. I kept the ball in play and my opponent kept making mistakes, that is what kept me in the game. I ended losing the match 6-1, 7-5. Was done for the tournament and was in bad shape afterwards with heat exhaustion and sore muscles. Thank God, I did not have to work on Friday and I took the Monday following off. Still recouping, and getting ready for my next tournament. I need to stay away from 3 hour first round matches. That is what hurt me.

Update 5-9-11

I played my 2nd tournament of the year. I have a new injury now - shoulder. It has been getting better and I played the tournament. I was seeded #4. My first round opponent came to the match with 1 racquet and a towel. He did not have a record so he was an unknown. Fortunately for me, he was a player that did not know what he was getting into. Since he did not prepare properly - 1 racquet and a towel only, I knew going in that either he was very confident or just not a prepared player. It was the former. I won 6-0, 6-0. My second round match was tougher. I was down 4-1. I kept my cool, knowing that I could beat this guy because he made some mistakes. I finally got my act together and won 11 straight games. I won the 1st state 6-4 and 2nd set 6-1. My confidence continued to build. My semifinal match was even tougher. This guy had a huge forehand. He beat the #1 seed easily. The #1 seed talked to me and told me to stay away from his forehand. I tried, but it was difficult. Even his backhand was good. I lost the 1st set 6-4. In the 2nd set, I kept fighting and staying in the match. I noticed (in the 2nd set) he started to slow down. I asked him if he was ok, he said he was cramping up. He shouldn't have told me that. That gave me the opportunity to win the 2nd set and new life in this match. I won the 2nd set 7-5. In the 3rd set at 1-1, he took a medical timeout. He was hurting. After he told me he was cramping, I started to run him. I was serving 40-15 at 1-1 and he quit. He could not move. I found out later that he had to be carted out and stayed in the club house for about 1 1/2 hours before he was able to walk and go home.
In the finals, I came up against a brick wall. I lost 6-1, 6-0. This guy was no 3.5 player but a 4.0-4.5 player. He was smart and placed everything. I couldn't find a weakness in his game. I ran him from side to side, but he got to everything. Nothing I did worked. His game forced me to go for shots and I made alot of mistakes. After the match, his legs were hurting too. If I could have kept going, I probably would have hurt him to and possibly win the match.

Keep in mind - if you want to win matches, go prepared, stretch drink lots of fluids. Have the proper equipment. And go into the match thinking that you can win. This will increase your chances of winning - it builds your confidence and confidence is 1/2 the game. Once you win it builds confidence and confidence brings more wins.

Note, you will not win all the time, but having what I mentioned - equipment, being prepared, drink lots of fluids and having the confidence, you will win more matches and you will have more fun.

One more thing: If you get the chance, scout your opponents. This will give you an edge. You will notice their game and you can adjust - that is being prepared.

I will have more updates soon.
